Proust’s madeleine and kouign-amann

at Plougonver

There’s plenty to see in the museum-shop area all year round, with exhibitions, traditional ‘guingette’ café entertainment, afternoon tea and a chat and Christmas events to name just a few.

A little extra:

Complimentary coffee, free visit and tasting

With its traditional biscuit making, a shop selling local products and an eco-museum of the trades of yesteryear, the biscuiterie Ménou is one of those unusual places that is impossible to categorise!   But there’s one thing that everyone can agree on:  its spirit of generosity and conviviality.  A moment out of time to please all ages, and well worth a little detour to Plougonver!

Museum of traditional trades

As soon we step through the door we’re transported back to a village square from the 1930s to the 60s.  A garage, a dentist’s, a bakery, a hairdresser’s, and of course a bistro.
The displays, created using objects carefully collected by M and Mme Ménou, look just like the real thing!  Memories come flooding back, and youngsters listen enthralled as old-timers reveal stories from their younger days.

Over complimentary coffee and biscuits, we talk of everything and nothing, enjoying the moment, just like old times.

Delicious aromas to tickle your tastebuds

At the back of the building, M. Ménou is busy preparing some sweet treats with a delicious taste of butter for us to enjoy.  Yum!

It’s going to be hard to choose between kouign-amann butter cake, palmiers, madeleines or palet breton biscuits!

Practical info:

  • The biscuiterie is open all year round from 10.00am - 12.30pm and 2.00pm - 6.30pm
  • From Monday to Saturday (and every day during the school holidays)
