Guy L’hostis was born in 1945 in Paimpol, to a family steeped in maritime tradition. A self-taught artist, he began to paint very early, using gouache, then oils, before moving to his preferred technique of watercolours. He was appointed ‘Peintre de la Marine’ (official painter of the French Navy) in 2010.
